IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

An investigation overseen by the World Health Organization has concluded that heavy use of cell phones may be linked to brain tumors, London's Daily Telegraph reported.
The decade-long study - which has not yet been released - found a "significantly increased risk" of some tumors "related to use of mobile phones for a period of 10 years or more," the paper reported.

Dr. Elisabeth Cardis, head of the so-called Interphone inquiry, said that while the results were not definitive, they do suggest precautions are necessary.

"I am therefore globally in agreement with the idea of restricting the use by children, though I would not go as far as banning mobile phones as they can be a very important tool," she said.
