Cash Money Records Is Giving Away Free Turkey's In Harlem

Hip hop hooray!

Harlem families in need will surely have a happier Thanksgiving with a bit of hip-hop flavor, thanks to one of the genre’s dominant record labels.

Cash Money Records co-founders Ronald (Slim) Williams and his brother, rapper Bryan (Birdman) Williams, are organizing another turkey giveaway at the Harlem YMCA.

Cash Money partnered with the Harlem Hospital and Iceberg Guards to provide free health screenings at Tuesday’s event. It will mark the third consecutive year the siblings from New Orleans are stepping up to the plate to help New Yorkers.

Artists from the label — whose roster includes Lil Wayne, Drake, Juvenile, Tyga and Queens-reared Nicki Minaj — have been known to show up.

Recipients were preregistered for Tuesday’s event, but organizers said 500 turkeys will be distributed to folks who show up, beginning at 4 p.m.

The philanthropy stemmed from the Williams’ recollections of the hardship they overcame, memories that seem to resonate during the holidays.

“When we were coming up, we lost our mother and we used to have to go by our aunt’s and have Thanksgiving, or sometimes with our dad,” said Ronald Williams, 47. “We never got a chance to do what we see on TV, with everybody sitting around as a family. We never experienced that.”

The brothers share an estimated net worth of more than $300 million, according to Forbes, putting them among the most successful businessmen in their field.

They started giving away turkeys in New Orleans, in 1996, five years after they founded their label and began building their empire.

The devastation wrought by Superstorm Sandy, only weeks ahead of Thanksgiving 2012, motivated them to bring the giveaway to the Big Apple.

“It was tough, and I know what we went through with (Hurricane) Katrina with everybody in New Orleans,” Williams said. “So me and my brother sat back and talked about it and did it.”

Nov. 25, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Harlem YMCA at 180 W. 135th St. between Lenox Ave. and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd.
