IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

A chart-topping single, an engagement to one of the biggest names in hip-hop and a Rolling Stone cover story all in the same month. Impressive hat-trick, Cardi B.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper has had the kind of year that most artists can only dream of, dethroning Taylor Swift from atop the Billboard Hot 100 and snagging headlines at a seemingly impossible rate. But the incredible hype surrounding Cardi has played a toll on her mental state as she preps her proper full-length debut album, she dishes to Rolling Stone.

Speaking with the magazine, the Bronx native said she has “six, seven solid songs that I like, but I wonder if a month from now, I'm going to change my mind,” and lamented that “my mind doesn’t flow as free 'cause I have so much on my mind.”

Cardi knows she struck gold with the abrasive trap rumblings and furious lyricism of “Bodak Yellow." And so, she said she has joined forces again with the song's producer, J. White, as well as Jamaican dancehall maestro Rvssian to recapture that magic while also adding some Spanish and reggae flare to her studio album. “It's so sad to say, and I don't want to be the one to say it, but you gotta follow the trend,” the 25-year-old rapper said.

She also explained her admiration for artists like Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole's socially conscious lyrics, but doesn’t think that style is for her. She said, "A bitch like me, it might not work out for me, so I'm going to stick to trapping."

On Friday, Migos’ Offset proposed to Cardi onstage at Power 99’s Powerhouse concert at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center, marking a big step for Cardi's personal life as well as her career -- something the rapper mentions she hopes can develop in tandem. "I need to make money for my family and my future family," she told Rolling Stone. "I think 25 years from now. I think about my future kids, future husband, future house."

Her interview starts off like this ……

Cardi B is butt-naked in the doorway of her hotel bathroom, yelling about her vagina. On a mid-October evening, she's readying herself for a college show in Baltimore, and the toiletries provided by the hotel aren't to her liking. "That soap gave me the yeast infection of 2017!" she hollers in her thick Bronx accent. "My pussy was burnin' like a Mexican taco!"
