LOS ANGELES - Singer Bonnie Pointer, a founding member of the seminal recording group The Pointer Sisters, was arrested for felony possession of a controlled substance early Friday.
Pointer, 61, was pulled over and taken into custody shortly after midnight following a traffic stop in Hawthorne, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff.
She was booked into jail and released three hours later with orders to face an Ingelwood judge Jan. 17, a Sheriff spokeswoman said.
The singer told TMZ.com last weekend that her sister is battling cancer.
Pointer, whose hits with her band include "Jump (For My Love)," was reportedly in talks to join the cast of "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" in 2010.
