Bobby Shmurda Sentenced For Smuggled Prison Shank

Rapper Bobby Shmurda, who is doing time for a gang conspiracy, has been barraged by obsessed fans trying to visit him in prison, his lawyer claimed as Shmurda was sentenced on a new charge that he smuggled a blade into jail Friday.

The Corrections Department has been "overwhelmed" with fan mail for Shmurda, whose real name is Ackquille Pollard. And women keep trying to visit him under false names, his lawyer Paul London said Friday.

"Mr. Pollard had numerous fans try to track down his info, and they would say numerous names such as his mother and sister,” London said. "As soon as he realized it wasn't who he thought it was, he got up.”

London made the claims to reporters before Shmurda’s sentencing in the Bronx for accepting a knife from an 18-year-old woman who had snuck it into Rikers Island in her bra.

“We all make mistakes,” London said of his client. “He wants to show the kids that you can make a mistake and turn your life around. That is what his lyrics are about.”

In the original conspiracy case, Shmurda was accused in Manhattan in 2014 of running a gang known as GS9 blamed for several Brooklyn shootings and dealing drugs. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy in October.

During a hearing, he suddenly wanted to drop his plea deal, saying he was forced to make it, but the judge went ahead with sentencing him to seven years. He has most recently been serving his time in Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y.

On Friday, Judge Marc Whitten sentenced Shmurda to 1 1/3 to four years in prison for promoting prison contraband.

Shmurda is already serving seven years in prison for his involvement in a gang conspiracy. The two sentences will run concurrently.

In the contraband case, prosecutors say a correction officer saw Rikers Island visitor Kimberly Rousseau reach inside her bra and pass a white latex balloon wrapped in black electrical tape containing the blade to Shmurda on June 21, 2015, officials said. He pleaded guilty in February.

Rousseau was arrested for promoting contraband and pleaded out. She was granted no jail time as long as she didn’t re-offend.

London insisted to reporters Shmurda didn’t know Rousseau, claiming she was an obsessed fan and that he ended her visit after 15 seconds.

"The fact that this was non-violent is more important to Mr. Pollard than anything else,” London said.

"Sometimes when you play with dogs, you wake up with fleas. Some of the stank rubbed off on him.”

Wearing a white shirt and khaki pants with his hands covered in protective mitts, Shmurda said nothing before his sentencing.

"No sir," he muttered to the judge when asked if he had anything to say.

He left the court with his head bowed.

Shmurda’s mother Leslie Pollard insisted that her son, who is working on a new album from prison, never actually possessed the blade.

"He said he actually didn't have a weapon on him,” he said. “The weapon was not found on my son. It was found on the floor.”

She blasted the criminal justice system for the treatment of her son.

“Right now we are just trying to get through this,” she said.

“He takes a flooring trade in the morning and works in commissary in the afternoon. He works rest of the day finishing up the movie he's trying to write. It's a bio."

She added that the conspiracy case is trumped up.

"They're being forced to take a plea deal,” she said of her son and his co-conspirators. “They want to see their freedom again. Right now it's very frustrating.”

Allen Dewane, a rep for Shmurda who was in court Friday, also suggested authorities trumped up the conspiracy charges because of his fame.

“Conspiracy charges are being abused,” Dewane said. “Bobby lives in a really bad neighborhood. Because he was the most famous person in the hood they manufactured that he was the head of GS9.”

“You haven't heard the last of Bobby Shmurda," Dewane added.
