If you’ve been wondering why Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V tape has yet to grace your streaming services, you may want to ask the man himself. Tunechi is reportedly the culprit behind the madness, and refuses let the tape see the light of day.
Weezy previously claimed that his former label, Cash Money Records was holding his album hostage, but Birdman has now called BS to his son’s allegations. In fact, the music mogul alleges that Wayne actually has the tape in his possession and has been refusing to hand it over to the label to release, according to sources at TMZ. According to reports, the ColleGrove rapper is allegedly holding onto the project as leverage in his ongoing legal battle with Cash Money.
Lil Wayne is currently up to his neck in legal woes after he sued Cash Money for $51 million in 2014, claiming that his former label failed to compensate him for the successes of Young Money mates Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Tyga. There is also a reported $8 million owed to Tunechi for his work on the fifth installment of Tha Carter series and an additional $2 million for the completion of the tape.
This mess of a family dispute has gotten out of control in the recent months. Lil Wayne reportedly bowed out of the game on Twitter earlier in September, claiming he was both “defenseless and defeated.” At this point, we have no clue who really has Tha Carter V, but fans are definitely not letting Weezy leave without that album.
