The singer — who leads all artists with nine nominations — won best music video for "Formation" before Sunday's ceremony even began.
Beyoncé released the politically charged "Formation" video last February onthe night before Super Bowl 50, then performed the song during the big game's halftime show.
The award could be the first of many for Beyoncé, who is also nominated for major categories including song of the year and record of the year for "Formation," and album of the year for "Lemonade."
She's up against fellow pop diva Adele in each of those categories.
Adele, who earned five nominations overall, also took home early hardware in winning best pop vocal album for "25" before the ceremony started.
