If you're still bummed about missing out on Beyoncé's killer 2018 Coachella festival performance, the first trailer for the upcoming Homecoming Netflix special might make you feel better. The 90-second trailer opens with a voiceover from Maya Angelou talking about wanting to be "a representative of my race... of the human race," as footage of the singer standing in a shower of sparks plays in the background.
The cameras then take you behind the scenes, with images of the singer's dancers getting ready to perorm, as well as reherasal tape, some goofing off and a few intimate glipses at the Knowles-Carter clan as Angelou continues speaking about being a beacon. "I have a chance to show how kind we can be," she says. "How intelligent and generous we can be. I have a chance to teach, to love and to laugh. I know that when I finish doing what I'm sent here to do I will be called home and I will go home without any fear, trepidations, wondering what's going to happen."
The voiceover ends with Angelou's advice to this generation: "Tell the truth... to yourself first and to the children." At that point the screen explodes into a montage of some of the most iconic moments from the performance tha inspired the temporary renaming of the event to Beychella due to the singer's utter domination of the stage alongisde her sister Solange, her reuinted Destiny's Child bandmates and husband Jay-Z.
The Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé special will debut exclusively on Netflix on April 17.
