Two daring robbers made off with about $65 million worth of jewels from Graff Jewellers in London last week, authorities said Tuesday. The robbery took place in broad daylight, CNN reports.
The two men, wearing suits and ties, walked into Graff Jewellers on New Bond St. at 4:40 p.m. and pulled a gun on the employees. They then took 43 items and made their getaway in a blue BMW.
One shot was fired, but no one was injured, Scotland Yard said. The bandits switched from the blue BMW into a silver Mercedes and then into another car to complete their getaway, police say.
"This was a well-planned robbery with a number of vehicles used to help the robbers escape," Detective Chief Inspector Pam Mace said in a statement.
"These men are extremely dangerous, and fired at least two shots in busy London streets as they made their getaway. Someone knows who these men are," she said.
"They would undoubtedly have spoken about [the robbery] before or boasted about it afterward. I would urge anyone who recognizes them, knows the whereabouts of the jewelry or has any other information to contact us."
This is the latest in a string of daytime robberies in London's Bond St. area.
