"Avengers: Age of Ultron" director Joss Whedon has ditched his Twitter account.
Whedon signed off Monday with a final message that said, "Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here."
The social media savvy director didn't explain his reasons for pulling the plug.
Online speculation pointed to the harassment he'd received from online trolls about the movie, especially over the storyline involving Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character.
Some critics felt the film made Natasha Romanoff look weak by having her cozy up to Bruce Banner, aka The Hulk, and including a scene in which she has to be rescued from the villain Ultron.
There were also hints of some surliness toward Marvel Studios.
Shortly before signing off, the 50-year-old filmmaker carped that studio execs didn't want him "to tweet anything stupid," The Verge reported.
Last month, Whedon caught some flack for calling a "Jurassic World" clip "70's era sexist."
He later apologized, telling Variety, "I don't ever say things about other people's work that are negative. That's bad form. It's not what a gentleman would do."
Meanwhile, Whedon addressed the sexism claims in an interview with the Daily News last month, saying he tried to make sure Johansson's cat-suited secret agent got as many butt-kicking opportunities as the boys did.
"I try not to turn it into an agenda when I create but at some point you've gotta do a head-count," Whedon told the News.
"And I have a 10-year-old daughter. Her favorite characters from the first movie are (Black Widow) and Maria Hill. Cause who else she got? And it matters."
