IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

ARE THEY SERIOUS? THEIR MAD @ OSCAR FOR CALLING FOX NEWS TRASHY!

Most of us can ignore Oscar the Grouch's infamously bad attitude, but one of his targets is really holding a grudge.

PopEater reports that conservative bloggers are irate over a 2-year-old "Sesame Street" sketch that was re-aired last week, which calls a channel named POX news "trashy."

The clip has a bored female viewer calling into Oscar the Grouch's news show, Grouch News Network, and saying: "From now on, I'm watching Pox News. Now there's a trashy news show!"

Big Hollywood, a blog created by conservative writer Andrew Breitbart, accuses the episode of revealing PBS's liberal slant.

"PBS — a network partially funded with my tax dollars — has the right to tell my kids that their parents watch “trashy” news?" he writes of the network that houses "Sesame Street." "The message is clear, I can’t even sit my kids in front of 'Sesame Street' without having to worry about the Left attempting to undermine my authority. "

PBS's ombudsman Michael Getler confesses that the producers should have probably "resisted" from using a name as transparently similar to Fox as Pox.

"I don't know what was in the head of the producers, but my guess is that this was one of those parodies that was too good to resist," Getler wrote on the PBS blog. "But it should have been resisted. Broadcasters can tell parents whatever they think of Fox or any other network, but you shouldn't do it through the kids."

But the Sesame Workshop VP of communication, Ellen Lewis, brushes off the hoopla, chalking up the episode to "just another one of the many parodies that 'Sesame Street' has done over the years."
