Apple fans started the New Year with a bit of a hangover after a software glitch caused the iPhone's alarm function to stop working.
The failure caused many to oversleep on the first two days of 2011, with some complaining they were late for work or even missed flights. Users could set alarms - but they didn't go off.
Social messaging sites like Twitter lit up with complaints from groggy iPhone users all over the world.
"Dear iPhone peeps. Please fix the alarm issue before I get home. Some things you shouldn't have to ask for," wrote Joanne Warner in London.
Apple spokeswoman Natalie Harrison told Macworld that the company was aware of the problem and vowed a quick fix.
"We're aware of an issue related to non-repeating alarms set for January 1 or 2," Harrison said. "Customers can set recurring alarms for those dates and all alarms will work properly beginning January 3."
The problem primarily affected iPhone 4 models and earlier versions with software upgrades.
