Amber Rose, a master of reinvention, has gone from stripper to big-bottomed arm candy to loose-lipped feminist.
And now she’s adding a new identity: talk show host. Rose, best known for her epic social media war with the Kardashians and hookups with Kanye West and fellow rapper Wiz Khalifa (the father of her son), debuts July 8 at 11 p.m. with a weekly VH1 talker, “The Amber Rose Show.”
She certainly stirred up trouble with the Kardashians last year when she fired a salvo at Kylie Jenner for scooping up her best buddy Blac Chyna’s ex — Tyga.
The skirmish turned into “The War of the Rose,” with Khloé defending her little sis with a string of torrid tweets. The back and forth included a Rose blast at West, asking him in a tweet: “Are u mad I’m not around to play in ur a--hole anymore?” and included an index finger emoji.
“I don’t hate" Khloé, says the 32-year-old South Philly native-turned L.A. nightlife luminary. “Being a dancer and dealing with older men, gave me the humility and knowledge to speak on such a subject,” she said unapologetically of Kylie’s overexposed fling with Tyga.
“But let’s face it. The only reason these girls have a career is because their older sister had a little fun on tape,” she says, referencing Kim Kardashian’s rise to fame following the 2007 “leak” of her sex tape with performer Ray J.
Rose says she plans to tackle similarly uncensored subjects on the new show.
Shortly before its debut, Rose, VH1 and the show’s producers could not provide much in the way of details relating to the program — including a list of upcoming guests, a description of the set or even pictures or Rose rehearsing for the national telecast.
Rose was also short on details about what the show will look like or how it will be formatted. What we do know: the show is produced by Dr. Phil McGraw and his son Jay McGraw.
Insiders buzzed about some trouble getting everything together by its orginal June 17 premier - and indeed with only a week to go before its debut, the network pushed “The Amber Rose Show” premier back several weeks to July 8.
The move gives Rose some breathing room.
“I definitely wanted a platform to talk about ‘sex-positive’ and other issues to show people who I really am,” she says of the seemingly long journey from the stripper pole to the talk-show couch.
The self-proclaimed feminist has more than 18 million social media followers. She leads an annual “SlutWalk” in Los Angeles in protest of a flip remark reportedly made by a police officer after a string of sexual assaults at Canada’s York University.
The comment: “Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”
Rose sure didn’t let that one go. “I deal with talk like that every day,” she says. “I recently dealt with that when my ex (Kanye) said he had to take 30 showers after he’d been with me.
We were happy when we were together and now I’m getting slut-shamed because we’re not anymore . . . and it’s unfair,” she says.
“I’m sick of it . . . and I’m here for my girls.” The walk ended up on VH1 after she did a “slut-shaming” segment promoting the event on the Dr. Phil-produced “The Doctors.” “The producers loved me and told me I needed my own show,” Rose reports. “Dr. Phil was blown away by the pilot and he and his team have been helping me get my chops up . . . I’m being schooled by the best in the business.”
The 31-year-old model regularly shares her opinions and her ample assets in a revealing Instagram posts. She expects to do the same on the show.
She’ll call upon a red-carpet-ready list of celebrity pals to come on and spill about “today’s issues” and offer insights on the world in which they live. “I want to be like Wendy (Williams), but tell people how it really is…because I live there," the author of “How To Be a Bad Bitch” promises.
“We’ll have in-studio guests, and I’ll go out on the street to get opinions from people on topics like how long before you should have sex with a guy, how long before you let him meet your kids.”
Sounds like anything might happen. Except for a guest appearance from a Kardashian, Khalifa or Kanye.
“We are not going there,” Rose says.
