On what would’ve been Tupac Shakur’s 45th birthday, director Benny Boom released the trailer for his highly-anticipated biopic “All Eyez On Me” Thursday. (June 16)
The brief teaser takes fans on a journey through ‘Pac’s impactful life starting from an FBI raid on his home when he was a boy, to his teen years where he witnesses and experiences police brutality all the way to the stage where he became hip-hop royalty.
“Son, this ain’t just about you,” Danai Gurira, who plays the late Afeni Shakur says in the trailer.” Like all black men, you have a bullseye on your back. They are going to give you the tools you need to destroy yourself. So above all else, to thine own self be true. Now, let me see your spirit.”
Played by 27-year-old Demetrius Shipp Jr who bears a striking and almost eerie resemblance to the late emcee, with the short trailer fans will finally feast their eyes on the man who has been tasked with the responsibility of bringing the beloved lyricist and thespian to life.
In the final clip, the money shot so to say, Shipp is on stage with a crowd of fans chanting “Tupac! Tupac!” and as the stage lights hit him, Shipp stands front and center, bearing the famous “Thug Life” tattoo across ‘Pac’s abdomen before the clip comes to an end.
Although the trailer doesn’t give an exact date for the film release, reports indicate it’s slated to hit theaters in November, two months after the 20 year anniversary of Tupac’s death.
