Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth looks like he may be in need of a good defense — of the legal kind, now that more details are beginning to trickle out about the Brooklyn stripper who claims she is carrying his child and suing him for $10 million.
Salvatore Strazzullo, the attorney for Silvia Mena, a former exotic dancer at Lookers in Elizabeth, N.J., tells Gatecrasher that his client has an audio tape she made of a phone call between her and Haynesworth. According to Strazzullo, portions of the tape include Mena confronting Haynesworth about the pregnancy and Haynesworth "insinuating that she should get an abortion."
The attorney adds that one reason his client did not want to end her pregnancy was that "she only has one ovary. The other was taken out for medical reasons, and she didn't want to risk" an abortion that would leave her unable to have a child from the remaining organ. He also alleges Haynesworth, whose seven-year Redskins deal has been valued at $100 million, then put Mena in touch with his personal assistant, who tried to convince her to see "an NFL doctor." The lawyer says his client was "skeptical about the whole situation." He says Mena has since had to sign up for Medicaid to pay for prenatal care.
Strazzullo, who says he is in the process of serving Haynesworth, says Mena had a "corroborating witness" in the room when she made the call.
"We want answers from Mr. Haynesworth," says Strazzullo, who represented ex-Scores stripper Milana Dravnel in a $25 million suit against boxer Oscar De La Hoya. (Dravnel eventually dropped the suit.) "This is not about settlement. This is about holding Mr. Haynesworth's hand to the fire. We're not asking him to marry her. We are just asking him to be responsible."
A spokesperson for Haynesworth did not respond for comment by deadline.
