A$AP Rocky will be back to perform in Sweden — but a prison concert is now off the table. Sweden’s prison board ruled against the rapper’s appearance.
Vilhem Grevik of Sweden’s Prison and Probation Service told a Swedish newspaper the decision. He cited “logistical and security issues” that would prevent the performance from happening.
Previously the Swedish board said they would ‘be open to discuss how they can make such a performance happen.’
The rapper was arrested in July with two people in his entourage and held in Sweden without bail. A$AP Rocky was convicted of assault in August, along with two bodyguards. All three men were given conditional sentences. That means no prison time as long as they don’t commit a similar offense in the future.
The rapper was also required to pay Jafari damages of around $1,300, which was far less than what he had been seeking. He was asked about a prison concert performance in a recent interview.
The rapper’s Swedish show will take place on December 11 at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe. A portion of the proceeds from the concert will go to the Swedish Network of Refugee Support Groups.
A$AP Rocky says he met many people who reminded him of himself while in a Swedish prison. Fans who want to support his cause can do so by buying tickets to his December 11 show.
A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Myers, recorded his debut mixtape Live. Love. A$AP back in 2011. This led to a major record deal with Polo Grounds Music, RCA Records, and Sony Music Entertainment. His first two studio albums, Long. Live. A$AP and At. Long. Last. A$AP, have both received widespread acclaim from critics.
