He may be 86 years old, but a governor in southern India may still have a little playboy in him.
Narain Dutt Tiwari, the governor of Andhra Pradesh, has resigned after a TV news channel broadcast footage allegedly showing him in bed with three women.
After the tape was broadcast on ABN Andhra Jyothi Friday, Tiwari's office claimed that the x-rated video was fake.
"The news channel report is fabricated, false and malicious to tarnish the image of the governor," read a statement issued by Aryendra Sharma, the governor's aide.
Despite Tiwari's denials, opposition and women's right groups in Hyderabad protested and demanded Tiwar's resignation.
The governor sent his resignation letter to the Indian president on Saturday, citing health reasons.
ABN Andhra Jyoti, the channel that aired the video, reported that the governor promised a woman a mining lease in return for sexual favors.
According to the Telugu news channel, the woman brought the three women in the video to Hyderabad and only decided to expose Tiwari when he did not keep up his end of the deal.
The channel was barred by the courts from re-broadcasting the sex tape on Friday when Sharma filed a petition arguing that the video was "likely to demean and denigrate his office."
Tiwari previously acted as a federal minister and as the top elected official of northern Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand states.
