50 Cent's Diddy Documentary 'Sean Combs: The Reckoning' Got Nearly 22 Million Views On Netflix In First Week

Sean Combs: The Reckoning, the much-discussed Diddy documentary from executive producer 50 Cent, is a hit on Netflix. During its first week on the platform, per a recent report from Deadline, the Alexandria Stapleton-directed docuseries drew 21.8 million views. The doc, which was quick to spur competing narratives from reps for Netflix and Diddy, was bested by Stranger Things, albeit not by as much as might be assumed. In its second week, the first batch of episodes from the Duffer Brothers-created blockbuster’s final season scored over 25 million views, bringing its Season 5 total (so far) to just under 85 million. At the top of the month, a spokesperson for Diddy, who’s currently incarcerated at Fort Dix in New Jersey while appeal efforts play out, slammed the Netflix doc as “a shameful hit piece.” In a statement shared with Complex and other outlets at the time, the spokesperson specifically alleged that select footage included in the production, namely video showing the Bad Boy Records founder in the days leading up to his 2024 arrest, had been used without authorization. The rep also took issue with 50 Cent’s involvement, calling him “a longtime adversary with a personal vendetta.” A follow-up statement reiterated these claims while further alleging that some of those interviewed for the series had “personal grievances, financial motives, or credibility issues.” A cease-and-desist letter was also sent, with a Netflix spokesperson later calling out the claims as “false” in a statement of their own.The project has no ties to any past conversations between Sean Combs and Netflix,” a spokesperson for the streamer told Complex earlier this month. “The footage of Combs leading up to his indictment and arrest were legally obtained. This is not a hit piece or an act of retribution. Curtis Jackson is an executive producer but does not have creative control. No one was paid to participate." In recent days, 50 Cent has continued to boast on social media about the doc’s success, at one point suggesting he was considering future documentary projects in a similar vein.
