Federal prosecutors said Tuesday they had smashed a giant suburban drug ring that was peddling cocaine just north of New York City.
Drug charges have been filed against 43 men and women, many of whom were rounded up in overnight raids.
All are "young gang members" led by a man named Elvis Santana, said Herbert Hadad, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office. He said probers have been investigating the ring for several months.
Santana is in custody, as are more than 30 other suspects, Hadad said.
Federal agents are working with police from Yonkers, Peekskill, Ossining and Westchester County. More than 200 FBI agents and police officers took part in the sweep.
The snagged suspects are expected to be arraigned later Tuesday in federal court in White Plains.
