Lawyer Claims Tekashi 6ix9ine Faked His Own Abduction

An attorney for Tekashi 6ix9ine‘s accused kidnapper compared the rhymester to disgraced “Empire” star Jussie Smollett on Monday as he claimed to jurors that the rapper faked his own abduction.

“This was a hoax,” lawyer Devereaux Cannick said of the July 2018 rapper-snatching, allegedly by his client Anthony Ellison. “It’s a Jussie Smollett, if you will.”

Cannick went on to tell jurors that Tekashi, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, staged the kidnapping in order to hype the release of his then-forthcoming single “FEFE,” featuring Nicki Minaj.

The lawyer claimed Hernandez posted a “diamond-encrusted pendant” to his Instagram account, along with the phrase “somebody come snatch my chain.”

Prosecutors say Ellison abducted the 23-year-old entertainer as part of an internal power-struggle within the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods. Ellison and his co-defendant, Aljermiah Mack, were allegedly high-ranking members.

Assistant US Attorney Jonathan Rebold told the panel that Mack sold drugs, while Ellison was an “enforcer” for the musician, who used his lyrics to “promote Nine Trey.”

“Musical success meant money,” said Rebold. “Money for Hernandez, money for the leaders, money for the gang.”

The rainbow-tressed rapper — who cut a deal with the feds — is expected to testify against the two as early as Tuesday.

His lawyer declined to comment on the allegations raised by Cannick.

Smollett was accused of staging a hate crime against himself in order to garner publicity.
