Michael Jackson Accusers Talk Abuse In First 'Leaving Neverland' Trailer

The first trailer for "Leaving Neverland" has dropped, and it gives viewers a look at what they can expect when the explosive new documentary hits HBO on March 3.

“He told me if they ever found out what we were doing, he and I would go to jail,” Wade Robson, who claims Michael Jackson molested him when he was a child, tells the camera. “I want to be able to speak the truth as loud as I had to speak the lie for so long.”

“It’s like hanging out with a friend that’s more your age,” says James Safechuck, the other Jackson accuser featured in the documentary.

Robson and Safechuck participated in the documentary, directed by Dan Reed, after filing lawsuits against Jackson’s estate in 2013 and 2014, respectively, both of which were eventually dismissed by judges.

The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, with police officers stationed outside the theater in case of protesters. The festival also made healthcare professionals available who could help audience members who were disturbed or triggered by the film’s graphic descriptions of abuse.

Jackson's estate said that the project "isn’t a documentary, it is the kind of tabloid character assassination Michael Jackson endured in life, and now in death. The film takes uncorroborated allegations that supposedly happened 20 years ago and treats them as fact. ... The two accusers testified under oath that these events never occurred."

The film asserts that Jackson did unspeakable things to little boys for years at his Santa Barbara County ranch-turned-amusement park, based on the testimony of Robson, 36, and Safechuck, 40.

In its press release about the film, HBO called it "a portrait of sustained abuse" that "explores the complicated feelings that led both (accusers) to confront their experiences after each had a young son of his own. Playing out against the backdrop of our collective experience, the film documents the value of breaking silence, even when it implicates a powerful and revered figure."
