Jets' Darrelle Revis Charged With Robbery And Assault After Street Brawl

Defensive star Darrelle Revis silently stood before a Pittsburgh judge Friday evening, the Jet charged with four counts following a wild night in Steel City.

He was released without bail after surrendering his passport and being ordered to stay away from his alleged victims at his arraignment.

The four-time All-Pro turned himself in to police around 7 p.m. to face charges stemming from a night which started at a bar called The Library and ended with his booking for a street brawl.

He was released following his brief court appearance via video feed.

The Jets cornerback was drinking for several hours at the scholarly-named watering hole before he punched out two men last weekend, a witness told WPXI-TV.

The report emerged hours after the release of a Pittsburgh police criminal complaint against Revis.

“Do you want to be next?” Revis asked witness Nathan Watt after allegedly knocking the man’s two buddies unconscious early Sunday, according to the complaint.

Watt told cops that Dallas Cousins, 22, of Kittanning, Pa., and his roommate Zacheriah Jarvis, 21, were out for “at least 10 minutes” after the one-sided confrontation on the city’s South Side.

Video footage of the incident captured on Cousins’ phone showed the 5-foot-11, 198-pound Revis standing outside the White Eagle bar.

“Why are you following me?” the Pro Bowler asks several times.

The video cuts off before the blows were thrown, according to the complaint. The 31-year-old defensive back was charged with robbery, conspiracy, two counts of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats.

But Watt couldn’t say for sure that Revis threw the knockout punches: “I don’t know, it happened so fast.”

And neither could Cousins, who told cops that he remembered arguing with Revis about the phone — and then waking up from the knockout blow to find police asking what happened. The bars closed about 30 minutes before the first punch.

The random 2:30 a.m. encounter began when Cousins spotted Revis on the street and asked if he was the 2009 AFC Defensive Player of the Year.

When Revis replied yes, according to the complaint, Cousins replied, “No you’re not.”

Revis became angry at that point, with Cousins claiming the NFL star “pushed him in the chest and told him to get out of his face.”

Things escalated when Cousins used his phone to shoot the video of Revis, with things turning physical. Revis yanked the phone from Cousins and tried to smash the device by throwing it into the street.

Once the phone landed, the punches started flying, both Cousins and Jarvis told the cops. Cousins suffered a fractured orbital bone along with a contusion roughly the size of half a golf ball above his left eyebrow, cops said.

There was also an inch-long laceration atop the swollen mass. Jarvis was left with a bruised cheek, and both men refused medical treatment before taking a taxi home, according to the complaint.

A relative told the Daily News that Cousins is a nursing student at Robert Morris University in Moon, Penn.

“This is no wild kid that goes around getting in trouble,” the relative said. “He’s always been a wonderful kid. I just want somebody to know that this kid is not a roughneck.”

The early-morning brawl capped a boozy night for Revis. A cop spied the NFL star standing outside The Flats on Carson bar about 12:30 a.m.

Revis’ lawyer Blaine Jones insists his client was assaulted by five men and treated at a local hospital for his injuries.

“Mr. Revis feared for his safety and retreated from the aggressors,” according to Jones.

Revis is due back in court Feb. 23.

Revis, a 2007 first-round draft choice of the Jets, is coming off a rough season in only the second year of a five-year, $70 million contract.

There are already rumblings that the Jets will cut Revis unless the player is willing to restructure his contract. Any deal needs to come before March 10, when Revis is due for a $2 million roster bonus.
