Tupac Shakur, Pearl Jam, Janet Jackson Among Finalists For Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

An eclectic group of performers — many of whom transcend genre — make up the list of finalists this year for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Tupac Shakur, Pearl Jam, Janet Jackson, Journey and Depeche Mode are among the biggest names to receive nominations for the Class of 2017, which will be chosen by voters between now and Dec. 6.

The Cars, Chaka Khan, the Zombies, YES, Joan Baez and Jane's Addiction were also named finalists to receive rock music's highest honor.

Steppenwolf, Chic, Bad Brains, Joe Tex, Electric Light Orchestra, MC5, Kraftwerk and J. Geils Band rounded out the list of 19 Hall of Fame hopefuls.

Fans will once again have the opportunity to make their voices heard in the final decision, as voting is open online to the public for a fifth straight year. A compilation of over 800 artists, music industry figures and historians will also factor in the voting.

Musicians and bands were only eligible for the 2017 ballot if their first release came in 1991 or before, making this the first time that either Pearl Jam or Tupac qualified.

Others, including Joe Tex and Kraftwerk have appeared on the ballot at least four times, while Chic received its 11th nomination — the most ever.

Typically, five to seven artists are inducted into the Hall in a given year. Last year, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Chicago, N.W.A and Steve Miller were voted in.

This year's inductees will be announced in December and enshrined in the Hall in April at a nationally televised ceremony in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.
