Most of you whom are familiar with urban culture have been scratching your head after seeing the influx of men wearing/sagging in what appear to be their sister’s jeans. You want to know why they’re doing it, don’t you? You want to know where it comes from. You find yourself wondering what on earth could posses so many people to do something that would (post disco era) get one verbally annihilated in any socially urban setting.
As one starts to ponder on this enigma, he or she should realize the severity of this epidemic. The urban youth reverting back to skinny jeans is the fashion equivalent to NBA players discarding the long shorts and embracing the shorts that cease to exist at mid-thigh. Historically, it would be socially unheard of for an urban male to walk around with these nut huggers with any intentions other than to make someone laugh.
But times have changed…
As you attempt to grasp concept of seeing grown men struggle to walk due to the snugness of their true religions, please don’t forgot to take a couple of things into account.
1st, when you examine the individual that embraces this style, you have to take into account the type of person he is. He who rocks the nut huggers is not an individual. He’s a cultural zombie that does anything the culture instructs him to do. He doesn’t think for himself; the culture does all of the brain work. Regardless of how ridiculous the culture’s instructions may be, his actions will always be predicated upon the culture’s demands. He is too afraid to risk an unfavorable judgment by one of his fellow zombies.
Secondly, you have to realize that this man’s persona, character, and personality have been created from the image of both someone he idolizes and someone most of his peers are familiar with. Normally it’s a rapper, actor, or sports athlete in which he ardently admires. He mimics every move of his idol. It’s similar to when a child dresses up as superman and really starts to believe he can fly. That child mimics the superhero’s fighting moves, gestures, mannerisms, and catch phrases. That child starts to feel as if he really is the hero!
Most of these niggas are running around thinking that if they wear their hero’s costume that they’ll be received the way their hero is received. They think people will like and identify with them the same way these people identify with their hero. They think they’ll get the same type of attention their heroes get. They always end up getting nothing but laughs…at their own expense.
