The rapper took to Instagram on Saturday to denounce the casual use of the cough syrup concoction that’s also known as “purple drank" and "hip hop's heroin."
"You know, when a lot of people follow one trend, or find themselves doing the same thing that everybody else is doing, you don't really get somebody that speaks for the other side," Khalifa, 30, said. “So Ima just go ahead and speak for the other side. Lean is lame.”
Sipping lean — a mixture of codeine cough suppressant, soda and Jolly Ranchers — has recently gained popularity in the hip hop community and has been referenced by rappers like Lil Wayne and Young Thug.
Lean abuse has been attributed to the codeine overdose deaths of DJ Screw and Pimp C, and a number of rappers including Gucci Mane and Macklemore have described their harrowing addictions to the opioid drink.
Khalifa, who appear to be taking drags from a large joint in the Instagram PSA, would prefer people to get high a different way.
In April, Khalifa released “Weed Farm,” a mobile game that allows players to operate marijuana farms and create fantasy pot startups.
The rapper also invested in his own strain of marijuana, Khalifa Kush, which was released to dispensaries in Colorado and California in 2016.
Khalifa dropped the new 10-track mixtape “Laugh Now Fly Later” last Friday, which precedes his upcoming “Rolling Papers 2” album.
