Wendy Williams Apologizes For Comments About Gay Men

A flustered Wendy Williams delivered a teary apology to her LGBTQ fans on Friday, one day after sparking outrage for telling men to “stop wearing our skirts and our heels” during an episode of her talk show.

In a video message posted to social media, Williams said, “I deeply apologize,” after fans blasted her for disturbing comments she made during a riff on “Galentine’s Day,” a pre-Valentine’s celebration of female friendship.

“I’m 55 years old and maybe I sounded like your auntie, your mother, your big sister or somebody out of touch,” Williams said in her apology video. “I’m not out of touch except for perhaps yesterday by saying what I said. I deeply apologize and I deeply appreciate the support that I get from the community. I will do better.”

On Thursday’s show, a brief mention of Galentine’s Day turned into a rant from Williams targeted at gay men. After asking her audience members who was celebrating, she said, “If you’re a man and you’re clapping, you’re not even a part of this. You don’t understand the rules of the day … I don’t care if you’re gay. You don’t get a menses every 28 days. You can do a lot that we do, but I get offended by the idea that we go through something you will never go through.”

She then said: “And stop wearing our skirts and our heels. Just saying, girls, what do we have for ourselves. … Looky here now, gay men, you’ll never be the women that we are. No matter how gay.”

A plethora of Williams’ fans took to social media after the segment to remind the talk show host how supportive the LGBTQ community has been of her over the years.
