UPDATE! R. KELLY IS NOT IN TROUBLE FOR HAVING A 17 YEAR OLD GIRLFRIEND! HE LIVES IN THE RIGHT STATE!

Initially – the police department made a blanket denial – claiming that R Kelly was never investigated. Now they’re backtracking – saying that he WAS investigated, but that they didn’t find anything criminal.
Here’s how the Chicago-Sun Times is reporting it:

"(We) were informed of a possible criminal matter. We investigated the issues, found there to be no crime, and the matters have been closed," Chief Jeff Chudwin said.

He refused to answer any questions about the complaint - when it had been filed or why it was deemed unsubstantiated - saying, "We do not comment on noncriminal matters."

(Note – the legal age of consent in Illinois is 17)
