Suge Knight Blocked From Seeing Son Despite Court Order

Suge Knight is feuding with his jailers again — this time saying they barred a visit from his 7-year-old son Thursday despite a court order.

Behind bars more than year fighting murder and attempted murder charges, Knight was supposed to receive a pre-arranged visit from son Legend around 2 p.m. pursuant to a judge's order signed last month, his lawyer told the Daily News.

"The county jail refused to allow the visit," lawyer J. Tooson said. "It's incredibly frustrating. I don't even know how to begin to deal with the unfairness."

Tooson said Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies at the Men's Central Jail at first said they were not aware of a the judge's order allowing Knight's minor children to visit him. When Legend's mom Toi-Lin Kelly produced the order on the spot, the deputies then said it didn't matter because it violated their policy regarding minors, Tooson said.

"They said they can't allow minors in while not watched by an adult," Tooson said.

But it was a lawyer for the Sheriff's Department who successfully argued last month that the minor children's guardians should be forced to wait outside, Tooson said.

"County Counsel were the ones advocating for this before it was approved," Tooson said.

Kelly, who is Knight's fiancée, tried to get on the list of court-approved visitors but was denied, he pointed out.

"I would say this is extremely disheartening considering the amount of court proceedings we had to go through to make it possible for Mr. Knight to see his son. And for them to disregard the court order, it's a slap in the face of his constitutional rights," Tooson said.

A call to the county lawyer representing the Sheriff's Department in this case was not immediately returned Thursday.

Knight, 51, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Compton businessman Terry Carter, 55, with his truck outside a Compton burger stand in January 2015.

Authorities claim he had a beef with a security staffer on the hit biopic "Straight Outta Compton" and was targeting that man, Cle "Bone" Sloan, when he mowed down both Sloan and Carter - killing Carter.

Knight claims he was the victim of an armed ambush and feared for his life when he hit the gas.

The co-founder of Death Row Records fled the scene but later agreed to meet with police to tell his side of the story.

He was taken into custody, arrested and hasn't been able to post his staggering $10.5 million bail.

His time behind bars has been marked by a series of medical emergencies and a secret court order sought by the Sheriff's Department under seal that restricts his access to the outside world.

Tooson said Knight is on medication for at least one blood clot and diabetes and was rushed back to a hospital in an ambulance last week shortly after spending several days there.

He was released from the hospital Tuesday and is due back in court Friday, the lawyer said.

The parties are expected to discuss discovery issues in the murder case, but Knight could also speak to the judge about his personal woes, as he's done in the past.

"Everybody is extremely concerned regarding his health. That would be understating the level of concern," Tooson said. "He's a man presumed innocent until proven guilty, and to prevent him from seeing his young son seems like cruel and unusual punishment considering the court order and what we had to go through to get it."

Tooson said Knight was "thrilled" about the prospect of seeing Legend Thursday.

"He just wants the same rights afforded to everyone. But the rules always seem to change when it comes to him. Regardless of the court order, regardless of how many times we go to court to advocate for basic fairness and equity, this happens," he said.
