IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

Steve Harvey has offered to help Mo’Nique end her feuds with Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry after she claimed she was blackballed in Hollywood.

“I don’t want to lose your gift to the world because we trying to prove a point when we can prove the point by doing it in a more loving way,” Harvey told the comedian following a heated discussion on Wednesday’s episode of his show. “I’m going to do my best to get the conversations that need to be had between you and these people … I’m going to then ask them, would they say it publicly for the benefit of everybody, so you can get the release that you need.”

Harvey continued that he would then ask Mo’Nique to apologize for her comments for “some bashing you did done.”

“I know you don’t think you did nothing, but you did and when everybody can come to that, then I think there’s a chance for it to move,” he said.

In February 2015, Mo’Nique told Hollywood Reporter she was blacklisted by Daniels after reportedly being labeled as “difficult” while shooting “Precious.” During a stand-up set in 2017, the comedian slammed Daniels, Oprah and Perry, saying, “You are not paying me equally. You are not treating me fairly, so you can suck my d—k if I had one.”

Daniels responded to Mo’Nique in 2018, calling her “disrespectful” for the things she’d said about himself and the others.

Before Harvey agreed to help Mo’Nique, she told him she didn’t regret what she said during the routine.

“I do not regret one moment of that night on that stage,” she said before Harvey explained that when she made that statement it diminished her 2018 boycott against Netflix after the streaming service offered her a smaller sum than her fellow comedians for a special.

“We can’t cure darkness with more darkness,” Harvey told her in part one of the two-part interview.

When she asked why Harvey didn’t publicly come to her defense in the Netflix boycott, he said, “This is the money game, this ain’t the black man’s game, this ain’t the white man’s game, this is the money game … Mo, if I crumble, my children crumble, my grandchildren crumble. I cannot, for the sake of my integrity, stand up here and let everybody who’s counting on me crumble, so I can make a statement. There are ways to win the war in a different way.”

The exchange, while heated in the middle, ended with Harvey’s pledge to help Mo’Nique mend fences.
