IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

STARING 40 IN THE FACE EMINEM IS STILL ON TOP OF HIS GAME! SAY'S HE DOSEN'T KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER BECAUSE HE'LL GET MAD AT THE THUMB THUGZ!

In the August issue of Spin magazine, Eminem talks at great length about his battles with prescription pill addiction (something he's done a time or six as of late), and the road to sobriety that led to his massive Recovery album. But he also sounds off on something completely different: Kanye West's hijacking of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
"He shouldn't have done that, man," he tells Spin's Jonah Weiner. "I mean, she's a little girl."

Em's newfound maturity is the backbone of the Spin cover story, as he discusses his relationship with his now-teenage daughter, Hailie, his adopted niece, and his ex-wife Kim's daughter, Whitney — "It's a catch-22: I want to, as a father, express my love for my girls, but I don't want to go too far with it, where it becomes a hindrance in their lives. When they were younger ... it was easier" — and his impending 40th birthday ("The big 4-0 is staring me in the face," he says. "You can't walk around pretending it's not.")

And though he weighed in on Kanye-gate, Em goes to great lengths to say that he's blissfully unaware of most of the pop-culture happenings of the world — saying he only watches sports, "Celebrity Rehab" and Discovery Channel shows "about space and dinosaur sh--" — and claims that he doesn't even know how to turn a computer on.

"Here's why I don't know how to work a computer," he says. "If I learn how, I'm going to be on that bitch all day looking at comments about me, and it's going to drive me crazy."

He also distances himself from much of his previous two albums, saying he hardly listens to 2004's Encore because "it reminds me of the phase when I was starting to get really high in the studio," and calls last year's Relapse "a regression."

"It was ... me rhyming to shock people again," he says. "How much f---ed-up sh-- can I say? Coming up in hip-hop, you wanna say things that get a reaction. But after a while, people get used to it, and it's like the joke is dead."

The August issue of Spin hits newsstands on July 26.
