Prosecutors Investigating New Videotape Of R. Kelly With An Underage Girl

R. Kelly may soon be indicted in Illinois because of a videotape that allegedly shows the singer sexually assaulting an underage girl.

Multiple sources, including a law enforcement official, confirmed the contents of the video to The New Yorker.

Lawyer Michael Avenatti, who’s representing multiple alleged victims of the R&B singer, released a statement Thursday that reads, “Included in the evidence we recently uncovered and recovered is a VHS videotape of Mr. Kelly engaging in multiple sexual assaults of a girl underage. The tape, which is clear, is approximately 45 minutes in length and has never previously been publicly disclosed or, until recently, provided to law enforcement.”

The statement says that the time frame of the alleged crime falls within the Illinois statute of limitations.

“As part of our effort to ensure that Mr. Kelly is finally held accountable for his repeated sexual assaults of minors spanning over two decades, we have provided extensive information, including the videotape described above and witnesses, to Cook County’s State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in Chicago,” Avenatti wrote.

Kelly’s lawyer responded on social media Thursday to say the singer has been “wrongly accused”: “Credit to Avenatti for moving his alleged fraud from the focus to my client. As we have said before, #RKelly, since being wrongly accused years ago, has always followed the law. We will have no further comment.”

The embattled singer has been under renewed fire following the recent release of Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly,” in which multiple women accuse him of sexual misconduct spanning decades.
