Pras Michel’s Child Support Case Thrown Out Of Court

Ex-Fugees member Prakazrel “Pras” Michel lost his bid to have monthly child support payments lowered after he once again failed to show up in court on Monday.

The “Ghetto Superstar” rapper brought a case against ex Angela Severiano seeking to lower his $4,800 monthly payments for their son Landon after he claimed he couldn’t afford them because the feds seized his money when they charged him with campaign-finance violations.

But Family Court Support Magistrate Amanda Norejko tossed his case because he was a no-show in court Monday. Michel, 47, didn’t come to court for the prior hearing on Nov. 19 because he had a death in the family, Norejko said at the time.

“There has been no request for adjournment,” Norejko said Monday. “I’m going to find that he [Michel] is in default and I’m going to dismiss his petition…for the failure to appear.”

Norejko also ordered Michel to pay nearly $60,000 for Severiano’s lawyer fees, finding in the decision that Michel had access to $1 million in funds “which were used to maintain various living quarters that Petitioner denied occupying, to rent luxury vehicles, to travel, and to enjoy fine dining during the same time period when Petitioner claimed to be impoverished and being supported by his mother.”

Severiano has since filed her own case against Michel claiming that he is behind on more than $120,000 in child support and other costs.

“Pras jerked us around for almost a year with this bogus and baseless downward modification petition,” said Severiano’s lawyer, Robert Wallack. “We’re pleased with the Court’s counsel fee award.”

Michel didn’t show up to the first court date in that case Nov. 25, prompting the Support Magistrate to issue a bench warrant against him which she stayed until the next date. Michel did come to court for the following date Dec. 20.

Michel’s rep, Darrell Johnson, said at the time that Michel missed the Nov. 25 date because of a family “issue.”

The pair are due back in court Jan. 31 in Severiano’s case.

Michel was criminally charged for allegedly working with fugitive Malaysian playboy Jho Low in a campaign-finance scheme tied to President Obama’s 2012 re-election.

A federal civil case also accused Michel of conspiring with an ex-DOJ official to thwart the US probe into Low.
