Nicki Minaj Sued For Alleged 'Starships' Copyright Infringement

Was Nicki Minaj's massive hit "Starships" a rip-off?

Chicago musician Clive Tanaka thinks so. The electronic dance artist has filed suit against Minaj and her producers, alleging copyright infringement.

Tanaka says that 2012's "Starships" borrows heavily from his 2009 song "Neu Chicago."

The Chicago Tribune reports that Tanaka said his song had already gotten widespread airplay in the U.S. by the time "Starships" was written. In his suit, the musician names producer RedOne, whose real name is Nadir Khayat, and writers Carl Falk, Wayne Hector, and Rami Yacoub.

"We believe they are similar to the point that it is nearly impossible for it to be a coincidence," Tanaka's lawyer, Christopher Niro, told the paper.
