NICKI MINAJ SAY'S SHE WANTS TO BE A BALANCED ARTIST SO IT'S NOT GIMMICKY!

Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj recently spoke on defining her sound and what fans can look forward to with her upcoming debut album.

Nicki said she has used various "weird" voices to get people to notice her.
"I want to be a balanced artist so its not gimmicky. What people don't know is that before I was doing that craziness I was doing me, I was just doing regular sounding rap that anyone could hear and identify with. But once I started doing all that weird sh*t--I'm not mad at it because it got everyone's attention, but I can sometimes forget that I come from a real authentic place in hip-hop. Im not someone who got signed to a record label who said 'hey maybe you should do weird voices.' No. this is all years of me learning me and my style, and decide to do something different that would get everyone's attention. But I always knew I wanted to come back to my original sound, and the album is going to be a plethora of different sounds. Sometimes people close to me they have their preferences, their favorite Nicki thing, and I have to stand up sometimes and block out the noise." (VIBE)
Minaj recently talked about making futuristic sounds for her debut with the help of producer Swizz Beatz.

"He definitely expressed interest in an interview one time," Nicki told radio host Jenny Boom Boom. "I was excited because I was like, 'Swizz Beatz, I love his style.' And as a matter of fact, we got some sh*t...It's one song called 'Catch Me' that will definitely make the album and it's a masterpiece from me and Swizz. It's a little singing, a little rapping, but it's like a different vibe. It's a moody vibe. It's just dope. And the beat sounds really futuristic, but it's mellow futuristic. It puts you in this weird...like you're high type sh*t, even though I don't get high and I never have." (Jenny Boom Boom)
After her song "Your Love" made Billboard history atop the rap charts, Minaj gave her reaction to such a huge accomplishment.

"I was not planning on putting the song out at all," she told MTV News over the weekend on the "Your Love" video set. "But then I heard it one day, somebody told me it was online. And I was like, 'No way, no way in the world that song is out.' I went and listened to it and was really upset. It wasn't mixed, it wasn't finished, it wasn't anything -- I wasn't gonna use it at all. But then radio started playing it...Isn't that crazy? Crazy. I don't even know how it feels [to have a #1 hit] right now. But it's amazing." (MTV)
Minaj is the latest female emcee to top the chart since Lil Kim in 2003.

'Your Love' is the first single by a female rap artist to top the Rap Songs chart in seven years, with Lil' Kim's 'Magic Stick' featuring 50 Cent serving as the last track to hold the same position back in June 2003 for five consecutive weeks. And while Kim had some male assistance, Missy Elliott is the last female artist to have a solo track top the chart with 'Work It' in November '02. (The Boom Box)
Nicki Minaj's untitled debut is set to hit stores in the fall.
