Mariah Carey Sued For $3M Over Canceled South American Tour

Mariah Carey is facing a lawsuit over a series of canceled concerts.

Court documents obtained by The Blast reveal that the 47-year-old songbird canceled respective concerts in Chile and Argentina in October 2016, prompting the show’s promoter, FEG Entretenimientos S.A., to seek $500,000 in damages.

However, a much larger claim stems from Carey’s own reporting of the cancellations. The “Hero” singer tweeted at the time, “Devastated my shows in Chile, Argentina & Brazil had to be canceled. My fans deserve better than how some of these promoters treated them.”

The lawsuit argues that Carey’s comment about the promoters were “knowingly false and defamatory,” and FEG seeks $2 million in damages for her tweet alone.

It’s not the only scandal in which Carey is embroiled at the moment.

In November, a former bodyguard accused Mimi of sexual harassment in a draft suit that also demanded payment for an unpaid invoice. Two months earlier, a nonprofit choir sued Carey’s production company for allegedly failing to pay a $4,000 security deposit for them to perform at her Beacon Theatre Christmas residency in 2016, then canceling the deal. The choir seeks $67,500 in damages.
