Kid Cudi Talks About Being Treated For Depression

Kid Cudi is working his way back to the top following a period of depression and a stint in rehab.

“I’m not battling any demons right now. Thank God,” Cudi told GQ in a new interview.

In October 2016, Cudi, 34, checked himself into rehab for “depression and suicidal urges.”

“Anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it,” he wrote in a Facebook message at the time.

He admitted to GQ that right before rehab things were dark adding, “I was thinking of ways to do it. It scared me straight. What scared me was that my mind was willing to go there. After all these years.”

In June, he released his first wave of music, “Kids See Ghosts,” with Kanye West. It was the first time fans heard new tunes from Kudi since his treatment. Fans may have also noticed an upbeat sound and theme.

“I chose to write the light,” Cudi explained. “Me and Kanye both agreed that we wanted to create a spiritual album. I know kids are used to hearing me talk about darkness, but I’m living in the light now.”

While things are trending upward for Cudi, spending time with his 8-year-old daughter continues to be a joy for him. “I’m the greatest fort builder ever,” he quipped. “That’s what my daughter says. I’m really good, and I pride myself on it.”

He gushes even more, “She’s just a ball of love. She’s always happy. That’s a blessing, ya know?”
