Judge Rules Tekashi 6ix9ine Music Videos Can Play In Trial

This judge is also a music critic.

The federal judge overseeing the racketeering trial against two Tekashi 6ix9ine associates questioned whether the rainbow-maned rapper could be called an “artist” — and said he’d only allow jurors to see snippets of his music videos during a trail, because they are filled with “rank misogyny.”

Jurors seated on the upcoming trial of former Tekashi 6ix9ine associates will get to see snippets of three of the rapper’s music videos, a judge ruled Wednesday — while making it clear he’s not a fan of the Brooklyn-born crooner.

Manhattan federal court judge Paul Engelmeyer said prosecutors can play certain portions from the music videos “Billy,” “GUMMO” and “KOODA” to prove their case against reputed Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods Anthony Ellison and Aljermiah Mack, but chastised the government for trying to include lyrics that were “filled with rank misogyny.”

Tekashi, whose real name Daniel Hernandez, is expected to testify against the two men during their impending trial — meaning the judge has to quiz potential jurors on whether or not they know who he is.

“Rap musician?” Engelmeyer asked the lawyers Wednesday as he tried to figure out how to characterize the Brooklyn-born 23-year-old.

“Rap artist,” responded Ellison’s attorney, Deveraux Cannick.

The judge paused, before saying: “That raises the age-old issue of ‘what is art?'”

Engelmeyer’s other critiques of Tekashi’s work included that “GUMMO” rhymes are “explicitly sexual in nature,” and said “KOODA” contains “misogynistic segments that could be unfairly prejudicial, as well as repeated threats to kill the rival rapper’s mother.”

In addition to the music videos, the judge ruled that the jury would not hear about Tekashi’s prior conviction on a charge of use of a child less than 17 years of age in a sexual performance.

The charge related to a February 2017 incident in which the then-18-year-old rapper fondled a 13-year-old girl on camera while she performed sex acts on two other men. Video of the abuse was uploaded to social media.

Tekashi was originally charged alongside Mack and Ellison, but copped a plea and agreed to cooperate with feds against the two men, who are accused of kidnapping the rapper and taking part in other gang activity.

The trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 16. If convicted, the men face up to life behind bars.
