Fulton County Chairman Calls For Criminal Investigation Of R. Kelly

A Georgia politician is pushing for a stepped-up criminal probe of R. Kelly in the wake of allegations the singer held women against their will in freaky sex cult.

Fulton County Chairman John Eaves said Friday he believes the district attorney should "advance" an investigation after Johns Creek Police reportedly turned over "key" evidence for review.

Eaves said if cops saw fit to hand something off to prosecutors, that suggests a possible felony took place.

"The natural progression typically when there is some evidence that law enforcement has that may be of a felony nature, it's important to go to the district attorney, so there's a natural progression," he said at a press conference on Friday.

"But it is not my role as chairman of Fulton County to know the contents of that investigation."

Eaves said "a lot of folks" contacted him and urged a more thorough probe.

It was last month that BuzzFeed first reported that Kelly "held women against their will in a cult" at a house he was renting in Johns Creek.

The story quoted parents and several women alleging that Kelly forms relationships with young women interested in the music industry and then mentally and physically abuses them.

A lawyer for Kelly told BuzzFeed that the singer denies the allegations.

The R&B star posted his own reply on Twitter, slamming the cult speculation.

"Despite all of the crap y'all hearing I will be coming to the East Coast to do my shows," he said in the blurry video. "And believe me y'all, it's a bunch of crap."

One woman living with Kelly released videos to TMZ.com saying she's perfectly fine and in a "happy place."

Jocely Savage, 21, spoke out after her parents held a press conference July 17 outside a house Kelly formerly rented and claimed she was "being held against her will."

Last week, Eaves and his Fulton County Board of Commissioners called on Live Nation to cancel Kelly's Aug. 25 concert at the Wolf Creek Amphitheater.

Live Nation said the concert would proceed as scheduled.

"A detailed local investigation by the Johns Creek Police Department has provided key information that we believe is enough evidence that gives the Fulton County District Attorney's Office all it needs to advance a criminal investigation of the well-known allegations," Eaves said in a statement Friday.
