Chris Brown Probation Revoked Over Club Shootings

With just days to go until the scheduled end of his Rihanna-related felony assault case, Chris Brown had his probation revoked – again.

The “Run It” singer appeared in Los Angeles County Superior court with on-again girlfriend Karrueche Tran and looked glum as Judge James Brandlin said he'd fallen short, so his court supervision would drag on and possibly lead to new sanctions.

Brandlin said the singer was still 202 hours short of the 1,000 community labor hours he agreed to serve by the time his probation was set to expire Jan. 23.

After briefly complimenting Brown for testing negative in recent drug tests and exhibiting a positive attitude, he revoked probation and ordered Brown to return to court March 20 to set a date for a violation hearing.

He also asked for a supplemental report related to two recent shootings that took place at Brown performances and were highlighted in a probation report recommending jail time for the short-fused singer.

The first shooting was at a West Hollywood nightclub in August during a pre-VMA party promoted by Brown. Rap mogul Suge Knight was hit by several bullets, and the shooter remains at large.

The second incident took place Sunday during a Brown concert in San Jose, Calif.

“The recent event in San Jose is disturbing for several factors,” Brown’s probation officer wrote in a report submitted Monday.

“One is that he was court ordered not ot leave Los Angeles County without court or probation permission. This is also the second event in less than six months that the defendant has attended of performed where individuals were shot,” the officer said.

“Though he has shown the ability to be compliant during long stretches of his probation grant, he still continues a pattern of making choices that are counterproductive in his ability to be successful on probation. There is also concern that when he performs or attends at some of his public events, people will get shot or seriously injured,” he wrote.

Judge Brandlin ordered Brown to give an interview to his probation officer as part of the supplemental report due before his next court date.

“As it is now, there’s no indication the defendant had any awareness or criminal culpability,” with respect to the shootings, Brandlin said in court Thursday.

Brown, 25, previously signed an agreement that he would not leave Los Angeles County without written permission, the judge agreed.

But he let the matter slide after Brown's lawyer Mark Geragos took “full responsibility” for the oversight, saying Brown's manager reached out to his office to ask if Brown needed a court order to travel and was told he did not.

Geragos showed the judge a screen-grab of the communication with the manager, the judge said.

“I’m going to accept at face-value that there was a good-faith inquiry (regarding) travel restrictions,” Brandlin said in court.

Brown was released on his own recognizance Thursday and told to continue with his community labor pending the March 20 court date.

The judge said Brown had been making “fairly steady progress” fulfilling the community labor requirement in recent months, serving about three days a week.

“It’s not entirely surprising to the court that he hasn’t completed the hours,” Brandlin said.

While Brown’s lawyer was in the judge’s chambers with the prosecutor, Brown sat in the courtroom gallery between his mom and girlfriend.

Tran, rumored to be his fiancee after series of breakups, tenderly held Brown’s hand in her lap.

Brown got five years of probation when he pleaded guilty in 2009 to beating Rihanna bloody in a rented Lamborghini.

The singer picked up another criminal case in October 2013 when he was accused of punching a man in a dispute over a fan photo on a sidewalk just blocks from the White House.

The Washington incident led Judge Brandlin to send him to rehab for anger management.

The rehab diagnosed Brown as bipolar and kicked him out for making comments about knives and guns during a group meeting, he probation reports revealed.

Judge Brandlin sent Brown to jail for the rehab violation in mid-March, and he was locked up for close to three months, getting out in early June.

Brown pleaded guilty to simple assault in the Washington case after his release and escaped any extra probation time with a sentence of time served.

Brown took to Twitter Thursday with a more positive reflection despite the turn in events.

"Nothing can stop what God has planned. Surround yourself with elevators! It's almost over... Keeping pushing forward and don't break!" the singer wrote.

Damn ….
