IN THE STREETS & ON THE WEB

In the latest leaked song from Beyonce, she sings about the end of a marriage. But it’s not her own.

“Ring Off” - a song of both pain and uplift - seems to address the disillusion of her mother’s marriage, Tina Knowles to Bey’s father Matthew.

“Mama, I understand your many sleepless nights,” Bey sings. “When you think about father/and how you tried to be the perfect wife...I wish it didn’t hurt at all.”

Bey’s parents separated all the way back in 2009, though their divorce did not become final until the end of 2011.

Lately, Tina Knowles has gone public about a relationship she says began roughly a year and a half ago with Richard Lawson, a long-time friend.

Bey’s new song reflects that joy. “Now the fun begins,” she sings, after praising her mother for taking “the high road.”

The lyrics also name-check Bey’s old hit “Love On Top.”

“Ring Off” rates as one of only two fresh tracks set to appear Monday on “Beyonce: Platinum Deluxe.” That package offers an expanded take on the “surprise” album the star issued last December.

Everything about “Ring Off” bests the only other new song on the disc, “7/11,” which also leaked Friday. “Ring” pivots on a sprightly, ‘70s-style soul sample, which seems to spring from the Betty Wright hit “Clean Up Woman.”

That sputtering riff helps give Bey’s song a bright sheen, and catchiness, nowhere evident on “7/11.”

“7/11” isn’t so much a song as an exercise. It’s a melody-free piece entirely devoted to punchy rhythm and Beyonce’s most percussive vocals. “Shoulders moving side to side..I stand up/with my hands up,” Bey blurts, as if leading a pilates class.

The “Deluxe” set will also include remixes of several songs off last year’s album, including one already issued: the take on “Flawless” featuring a cameo rap from Nicki Minaj. To fill it out, the package works in a DVD capturing part of last summer’s “On The Run” tour with hubby Jay-Z.

The inclusion of “Ring Off” does give the new set a frisson of gossip. While the cut may clearly reference Bey’s mother, it can’t help but invite a double meaning, given all the speculation about the star’s own marriage to Jay.

Bey may have done plenty to try and quash those rumors this year, highlighted by the couple’s spin-controlling appearance with daughter Ivy Blue at the MTV Video Music Awards in August. But she’s also media savvy-enough to know, releasing any song about a busted marriage keeps the all-important twitterverse turning.
