Forget lemonade, Beyoncé's moving on to a new fruity drink.
The pop superstar invested in WTRMLN WTR — a three-year-old company dedicated to serving up cold-pressed watermelon juice to the world.
“I invested in WTRMLN WTR because it's the future of clean, natural hydration,” Beyoncé said in a statement. “As partners, we share a simple mission to deliver accessible wellness to the world.”
The partnership seems to be a natural fit, considering Beyoncé's 2013 mega-hit “Drunk In Love” includes the lyric, “I've been drinking … watermelon.”
The drink, packed with antioxidants and no added sugar, is made from blemished watermelons that would otherwise be thrown away. Each bottle contains 90 calories, and includes only two simple ingredients: watermelon and lemon.
Health experts say the drink is a “Flawless” fit for your health regimen.
“Watermelon is high in lycopene (an antioxidant) and lemon is high in vitamin C,” health expert Lisa Young said. “Stick to one eight-ounce bottle and don't give up eating whole fruit too for fiber.”
Beyoncé is a known health advocate. She worked with exercise physiologist Marco Borges last year when she went on her 22-day plant-based diet, and the pair also teamed to launch a vegan food line called 22 Days.
She says the new investment is much more than a marketing ploy.
“This is more than an investment in a brand, it's an investment in female leaders, fitness, American farmers and the health of people and our planet,” Beyoncé said in the statement.
A 12-pack sells for $39.99.
It's unknown how big the “Halo” singer's stake in the company is, but WTRMLN WTR co-founder Jody Levy told the Chicago Tribune that Beyoncé is a “meaningful” shareholder.
The investment comes just two weeks after Beyoncé stirred the pitcher with the release of her highly evocative new album, “Lemonade,” which has squeezed out widespread speculation about her husband Jay Z's rumored infidelity.
Like Jay Z, Beyoncé is attaching her name to a number of different business ventures. She premiered her new Ivy Park clothing line last month, and she founded the Parkwood Entertainment management company in 2008.
She's also been involved with other beverage companies, previously signing an endorsement deal with Pepsi.
