BET Readies Limited Series On Suge Knight & Death Row Records

After the success of BET’s limited biopic series about New Edition, the network has pretty much mastered the recipe to creating good, biographical TV. And keeping that trend strong, BET is reportedly working on its next limited series on Death Row Records, Billboard exclusively reports. The production, entitled Death Row Chronicles, is reportedly slated for a 2018 release.

The upcoming series will reportedly be comprised of six, one-hour episodes and will provide viewers with an inside look at the rise, fall, and cultural relevancy of the West Coast music label. It will also discuss the legacies of its label roster including Tupac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and of course, its CEO Suge Knight, whom is currently awaiting a murder case in jail. Additionally, unlike The New Edition Story, it will follow more of a documentary style. “Part true-crime murder mystery and part hip-hop drama,” a BET spokesperson said, describing the limited series.

There are very little details surrounding the series’ structure or possible casting, but production is set to begin this Spring 2017 ahead of it’s Summer 2018 release, according to Billboard. The series will reportedly be produced by Entertainment One and Creature Films.

BET’s The New Edition Story broke records for the network in Jan. 2017, becoming its highest rated premiere in the last five years. But with a story as explosive and intense as that of Death Row, those records are likely to change. Stay tuned for more details regarding Death Row Chronicles.
