All Eyez On Me Sued For Stealing Script From Journalist

The new biopic about one of the most iconic rappers of all time was actually plagiarized from a series of Vibe Magazine articles and should be pulled from theaters, the writer declared this week.

Kevin Powell, who had interviewed Tupac Shakur for Vibe Magazine on numerous occasions during the 90s, claims the producers used his "intense" moments with the rapper to write the script without his permission.

"After viewing the movie twice in the past few days, it is clear that my exclusive Vibe cover stories on Tupac Shakur (when he was alive), were lifted, without proper credit or compensation of any kind to me," Powell said in a statment on Friday.

"All Eyez on Me" producer L.T. Hutton admitted he looked at all of Tupac's interviews to make the film and Powell points out very specific examples from the script that pulled directly from his articles.

Powell believes the character Nigel in the film is based on the person Haitian Jack, who he described in his articles. He also points out that Pac speaks to a journalist while he's in prison in a scene of the film, which Powell had also done while working for Vibe, TMZ reports.

It is unclear if Powell is after a specific amount from producers, but he's asking a judge to immediately stop the film from playing in theaters and to allow him a slice of the profits it has already made — "All Eyez on Me" has grossed about $31 million since its release on June 16.

Powell is also in the process of writing a biography on the iconic hip hop artist.

"Kevin took creative license to protect the complex human being that was Tupac Shakur. This included fact-specific narrative changes and character creation in an effort to protect the legacy that Tupac was still building. Kevin’s exclusive and intimate access to Tupac Shakur came as a result of the trust established over the years," his lawyer Keith White told the Daily News.

"The narrative that Kevin developed from many intense and exclusive moments with Tupac should not have been used in any film without Kevin’s approval and consultation," White continued.

"All Eyez on Me" has come under fire since its debut, particularly by those close to Pac, including one of his dearest friends Jada Pinkett Smith, who said their relationship was falsely represented on the screen.

50 Cent called the film "bulls-t" and said he wanted his money back.

He added, "2PAC is supposed to be a classic they f---ed it up."
